BA faces fresh strikes
BRITISH AIRWAYS cabin crew yesterday voted in favour of taking fresh strike action in a dispute that has so far cost the airline more than £150m.
The Unite union, which represents 90 per cent of BA’s 12,000 cabin crew, said more than four-fifths of the 6,981 staff who returned valid voting papers voted in favour of taking industrial action.
The date of the strike is yet to be announced. Unite has 28 days to announce a date and must give BA seven days’ notice before any strike action takes place.
“We urge BA’s boardroom to see this as a clear message that they must think again about how to regain the trust and confidence of a significant part of their cabin crew operation,” Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said in a statement.
BA stated: “We began talks with Unite this month. We hope they will bring an end to this dispute, which is what the overwhelming majority of our cabin crew want.”
